## How to check a modelling agency is legitimate

1. No upfront fees: GOV.UK says agencies cannot charge photographic and fashion models upfront fees for finding work (https://www.gov.uk/entertainment-and-modelling-agencies/fees-for-fashion-and-photographic-models); see regulation 26 and Schedule 3 of the Conduct Regulations 2003 (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2003/3319/regulation/26) and section 6 of the Employment Agencies Act 1973 (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1973/35/section/6).
2. Extra services such as photos cannot be a condition of finding you work; no charge until 30 days after that contract starts, and you can cancel within 30 days without paying (https://www.gov.uk/entertainment-and-modelling-agencies/fees-for-other-services).
3. Terms and fees must be agreed in writing before any fee is charged (https://www.gov.uk/entertainment-and-modelling-agencies/terms-and-conditions).
4. Your earnings must go through a client account and be passed on within ten days of receipt, with a statement (regulation 25: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2003/3319/regulation/25).
