## Who is behind Guo Pei?

Guo Pei (郭培) was born in Beijing in 1967 and graduated from the Beijing Industry and Trade Technician College in 1986. In 1997 she founded Rose Studio in Beijing, which M+ describes as China’s first couture studio. Her Yellow Queen gown, from the 2009 collection 1002 Nights, became known worldwide when Rihanna wore it to the 2015 Met Gala, the same year two of her designs appeared in The Met’s China: Through the Looking Glass. She opened a Paris office that year and, from 2016, staged ten shows over five consecutive years during Paris Haute Couture Week. M+ in Hong Kong gave her a major exhibition from September 2024 to April 2025, and in September 2025 she opened CENTRESTAGE with Gilternity: An Everlasting Radiance, a show at M+ that her site lists as Spring/Summer 2026 couture.
