## What do casting directors actually look for?

On the runway they look for proportions, a distinctive look, a strong natural walk, professionalism, and a point of difference. Requirements vary by market and category. Reliability and how you carry yourself matter as much as measurements. You do not need professional photos to start.

Agencies prefer simple, un-retouched digitals: a few clear photos in plain clothing against a blank wall — front, side, and full-length — plus your height and basic measurements. Heavy filters and studio glamour sets make you harder to cast, not easier.

The industry is more open on age, size and background than the clichés suggest. It is not more open on scams. The two facts can be true at once.

## How do you find a real modelling agency?

Use the agency’s official website open call or submission page. Research the agencies that already represent models whose work you can verify. ## What happens after you are signed?

The agency builds digitals into a book, submits you to castings, and negotiates bookings. Fashion week is a cluster of go-sees, options and last-minute confirms — not a single audition. Your job is to be reachable, on time, and honest about measurements. Their job is to get you seen by casting directors.

Read the money guide before you sign anything that mentions advances. An advance is a debt against future work. Stacking advances is how new models end up owing the agency.
