Seoul Fashion Week (서울패션위크) is the week the Big Four still under-cover and K-beauty retailers never explain. It is a trade platform for Korean design, heavily inflected by street fashion and by the global reach of K-pop and K-drama, staged in a city that also supplies some of the faces on the Global 50.

## When is Seoul Fashion Week?

Twice a year. The Cast Index SS27 record is 1–7 September 2026 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, with landmark city sites used for the first time in the 25th anniversary season, including Deoksugung-gil and Heungcheonsa Temple. Unlike the Big Four, Seoul is not locked to the New York–London–Milan–Paris September/February relay as a fifth stop. It runs on the city’s own calendar. Do not quote last year’s dates as this year’s.

## Who organises Seoul Fashion Week, and when did it start?

The Seoul Design Foundation, under the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The week launched in 2000 as a government-backed initiative to put Korean fashion on a global stage. In 2015 the city restructured the event to put more weight on local talent and on Korean designers’ international presence.

That civic backing is the opposite of a privately produced tent city. It is also why SFW belongs in a casting conversation: the week is policy as well as runway. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has described the 2025–26 cycle as marking 25 years of the platform.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is the standing main venue. Street fashion around Dongdaemun is part of the week’s public image; it is not a substitute for the official schedule.

## What is Seoul Fashion Week known for?

Korean design, street-fashion adjacency, and a gateway for local labels into international markets. Media coverage from Vogue, Business of Fashion and others has grown; that still does not make Seoul a Big Four city. K-fashion and K-beauty travel together in culture — they are not the same desk job.

For faces, SFW is where Korean-nationality models are visible at home as well as in Paris. For finishes, do not declare a “Seoul look” from street snaps alone; the Season Beauty Index assigns finishes to verified weeks with evidence.

## Who should skip Seoul Fashion Week coverage?

Skip it only if your brief is strictly European heritage houses this month. Do not skip it if you cover K-fashion, Korean faces, or the relationship between Seoul’s week and K-beauty culture. The no-pay-to-walk rule is the same as Paris.

A paid “Seoul Fashion Week ticket” from an unverified seller is the same scam pattern as anywhere else on the circuit. Official seats are allocated.
