Fashion Week

Shanghai Fashion Week was founded in 2001, supported by China’s Ministry of Commerce and hosted under the Shanghai Municipal Government, organised in coordination with the Shanghai Textile (Group) Corporation as part of the broader Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival. It runs twice yearly, previewing spring/summer and autumn/winter collections each season.

In 2013, the week launched the "Design by Shanghai" programme in partnership with the British Fashion Council, giving independent local designers international exposure, the same year its trade-show component, Mode Shanghai, partnered with New York-based ENK International. In 2016, Labelhood debuted as an official satellite platform, growing out of stylist Tasha Liu’s Dongliang concept store, founded in 2009; the two formally merged in 2018. Labelhood has since grown into a major designer-incubation platform, supporting more than 100 designers across roughly 180 shows over nine-plus seasons, charging emerging designers a modest fee rather than commercial runway costs to lower the barrier to showing internationally.

The Autumn/Winter 2026 season, themed "Design Ahead, Fashion Ascends," ran 25 March–1 April 2026 across venues in Shanghai’s Huangpu, Jing’an and Pudong New Area districts. HPLY opened the season and Shanghai-based label EP Yaying closed it, while Maison Margiela staged the global debut of its Autumn/Winter 2026 collection on 1 April, followed by a dedicated exhibition running through 6 April.
