What is the difference between lip oil and gloss?
Both can create shine. Texture, pigment and ingredients vary by formula, so compare the actual products rather than assuming every oil is lighter or more moisturising than every gloss.
Do I need both liner and balm?
Only if you want both definition and a care-focused layer. A liner is optional; a simple balm can be a complete lip routine when colour is not the goal.
