How do agencies in Indonesia recruit?

  • Jakarta and Bali agencies take applications through forms on their own websites. JIM Models describes four steps: apply online, a review by its scouting team, a casting at the agency for shortlisted applicants, then training before first bookings. JIM Models — Become a Model ↗

  • Jakarta Fashion Week casts its runway models through JFW Model Search: an online audition by TikTok video and form, then in-person measuring, photographs and judging in Jakarta for the shortlist. Fees, contracts and safeguarding

What are the rules in Indonesia?

  • Under the Manpower Act (Law 13 of 2003), a child is anyone under 18, and employers may not employ children except in the cases the Act sets out (Articles 1 and 68). JDIH BPK — UU No. 13 Tahun 2003 tentang Ketenagakerjaan ↗
  • A child may work to develop their talents and interests only under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian, for no more than three hours a day, and in conditions that do not disturb their development or school time (Article 71). JDIH BPK — UU No. 13 Tahun 2003, Article 71 ↗
  • Ministerial Decree KEP.115/MEN/VII/2004 adds that, for children under 15, the employer needs a written agreement with the parent or guardian, work must be outside school hours and capped at three hours a day and 12 a week, and a parent or guardian must be on site. Any employer using children for this kind of work must notify the local manpower office at least 14 days beforehand. The decree does not name modelling specifically.   • We found no Indonesian rule written specifically for modelling agency fees. The Manpower Act lets licensed private job-placement agencies charge placement fees only to employers and to workers in categories set by ministerial decree (Article 38). Do modelling agencies in Indonesia charge a fee to join?

None of the agency application forms listed here asked for a fee when we checked on 1 October 2026. Elite says it never requests payment for representation, and Jakarta Fashion Week says its Model Search audition is free. We found no Indonesian law written specifically about modelling agency fees, so check any payment request with the agency’s official contacts first.

What height do I need to be a model in Indonesia?

There is no national rule; each agency sets its own. Persona says it has no minimum height, IMM says it looks for women from 170 cm and men from 180 cm, and JFW Model Search lists 170 cm for women and 180 cm for men.

How old do you have to be to model in Indonesia?

Persona accepts applicants from 14, and JIM Models’ terms say under-18s need parental or guardian consent. By law, children working to develop their talents need a parent or guardian’s direct supervision and no more than three hours’ work a day, with extra rules for under-15s.

What photos should I send a Jakarta agency?

Simple, natural pictures rather than a paid shoot. JIM Models asks for a headshot and full-body photo in natural light with minimal make-up against a plain background, and IMM asks for unretouched full-body, close-up and side photos.

When is the Jakarta Fashion Week Model Search?

Entries for the JFW 2027 edition, held 26 October to 1 November 2026, closed on 30 May 2026. Auditions are by TikTok video and an online form, followed by in-person judging in Jakarta for the shortlist. Check the official JFW page for the next round.

Can foreigners work as models in Bali?

Foreign models need the right visa and permit. Bali Model Agency says a working visa is needed to work legally in Indonesia, and the Manpower Act requires employers of foreign workers to hold a government-approved foreign-worker plan.

How can I tell if a modelling scout is fake?

Check the agency’s own website before replying. Posture Management says it never approaches people through Twitter, Facebook, Zoom or Skype and publishes office numbers for checks, and Elite says it never asks for payment or nude or lingerie photos.
