From a stadium debut to a global stage
Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week began on 18 November 2021, when the Ministry of Trade and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) staged Embracing JMFW at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium. Twelve Muslim fashion labels, twelve mainstream brands and fifteen student designers from Indonesian universities showed that night, with a clear ambition: to make Jakarta a world capital of Muslim fashion.
The platform has grown every year since. Like Jakarta Fashion Week, JMFW names an edition for the year ahead: the standalone JMFW 2026 showcase opened on 6 November 2025 at the Kartika Expo Center, Balai Kartini, under the theme “Essential Lab”, bringing 242 businesses together with buyers from Italy, France, Malaysia, the UAE and Singapore.

Two festivals, one modest fashion powerhouse
For 2026 the Ministry of Trade and Bank Indonesia merged JMFW with IN2MOTIONFEST, the Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival. Organisers explained that separate events had split the attention of designers, sponsors and foreign buyers; together, they aim to position Indonesia as a global modest fashion sourcing hub.
The theme, “Indonesia’s Integrated Modest Fashion Ecosystem: Transforming Modest Fashion Brands into Global Business”, runs through five days of runway shows, a wholesale and retail trade show, workshops, industry forums and fashion trend forecasts for 2027–2028.

Wastra on the runway
Indonesian wastra — batik, tenun and the country’s many traditional textiles — is the heart of the week. The opening on 14 October was marked by a performance in richly patterned wastra, and the Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, called the country’s textile heritage a source of identity for Indonesian modest fashion.
Designers from across the archipelago are taking part. Fomalhaut Zamel, a label from West Sumatra built on local tenun, told the Ministry of Trade that its market has grown beyond the province since joining IN2MOTIONFEST and JMFW, moving from private orders into ready-to-wear.

From runway to export
Business matching sits alongside the shows. Brands can meet modern retailers from HIPPINDO, the Indonesian association of retailers and shopping-centre tenants, and exporters can pitch online to buyers found by Indonesia’s 46 trade representative offices abroad. The Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, invited every brand with export ambitions to take part.
The opportunity is substantial: the SGIE 2025/26 report values global Muslim spending on clothing and footwear at USD 347 billion in 2024, rising to USD 444 billion by 2029.
