This is not a complete directory of London agencies: the BFMA’s current-members list also names London agencies including Established Models, Linden Staub, Mrs Robinson Management, Nevs, Supa Model Management, The Hive Management, Wilhelmina London. 7 of the 10 agencies above appear on that list; membership is optional, so absence is not a warning sign on its own.
UK rules, checked 1 October 2026
How to check a modelling agency is legitimate
A legitimate UK agency never charges you to join: the law bars upfront fees for finding work for photographic and fashion models. Apply through the agency’s own website, get the terms in writing, expect your earnings to arrive through a client account, and report an agency that breaks the rules to the Fair Work Agency.
- 1
No upfront fees — it is the law
GOV.UK guidance says agencies cannot charge photographic and fashion models any upfront fees for finding work, including for putting them on a website or in a publication. Under regulation 26 and Schedule 3 of the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003, an agency for models may charge only a fee or commission taken from earnings for work it has found. Breaching section 6 of the Employment Agencies Act 1973 is a criminal offence.

- 2
Extra services are optional, with 30 days to cancel
An agency can sell other services, such as photos, but GOV.UK says it cannot make using them a condition of finding you work. It cannot charge for them until 30 days after that contract starts, and you can cancel within those 30 days without paying anything.
- 3
Get the terms in writing first
Terms and fees must be agreed in writing before an agency charges you. They must cover the services it will provide, any authority to act or receive money for you, its fees or commission and how they are paid and refunded, and the notice each side must give to end the contract.
- 4
Your earnings go through a client account
An agency that collects your fees must hold them in a client account as your trustee and pass them on within ten days of receiving them, unless you ask it to hold them longer, with a statement showing who paid, for which job and what was deducted.
- 5
Check the contact, not the compliment
Storm, Premier, Models 1 and VIVA publish the only email domains their staff use. IMG, Next, Elite and Premier say they never ask for payment or for nude or lingerie photos. The BFMA warns about fake scouts with look-alike email addresses, “open calls” in hotels and websites that charge to pass you on to agencies.
- 6
Know where to complain
The Fair Work Agency replaced the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate on 7 April 2026. It investigates complaints that an agency has broken the 1973 Act or the 2003 Regulations — for example by charging a fee to find you work or withholding pay — in England, Scotland and Wales, and does not charge for this. In Northern Ireland, contact the Employment Agency Inspectorate.

Do London modelling agencies charge fees?
