When was Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2026?
Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo AW26 ran from 16–21 March 2026 in Tokyo, Japan. Venues, cast and beauty teams vary by house.
02 / History
From Tokyo Collection to a unified platform
What is now Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo traces to the Tokyo Collection, run informally by a designers’ council from the 1980s. In 2005, industry stakeholders — designers, manufacturers and apparel companies — reorganised the platform under a single body, the Japan Fashion Week Organisation (JFWO), giving Tokyo’s fashion calendar the unified structure it has today; the event’s own 20th-anniversary marketing for its 2025 season dates the platform to that 2005 founding.

A changing roster of title sponsors
The JFWO signed a five-year partnership with IMG Fashion in 2010 to raise Tokyo’s international profile, and the following year Mercedes-Benz became the week’s first title sponsor, launching "Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo." Amazon took over as title sponsor in 2016, branding it "Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo" and adding see-now-buy-now e-commerce features, before Rakuten became title sponsor in 2019 under the event’s current name.

The 2026 season
Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo is held biannually at Shibuya Hikarie, and is widely described as Asia’s largest fashion week and one of fashion’s "Big Five" alongside New York, London, Milan and Paris, known for its avant-garde and street-style presentations — streetwear label A Bathing Ape marked its 30th anniversary with a runway show there in 2023. The Autumn/Winter 2026 season ran 16–21 March 2026, continuing a refocus on live Official Designer Shows, Partnership Shows and Incubation Shows that began with the 2025 edition, after the week dropped its digital-only programming.
