When is the Met Gala 2027?

Has the 2027 Met Gala date been announced?
No. The Met’s last word on 2027 came on 31 August 2026, when it said information on a new spring Costume Institute exhibition and the 2027 Met Gala would be announced at a later date. When we checked The Met’s press releases ↗ on 22 October 2026, the latest was dated 15 October and none since 31 August covered the Costume Institute or the gala.

What happened to the John Galliano Met exhibition?
On 31 July 2026 The Met announced John Galliano: Horizons as its spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition. A month later, on 31 August, the museum and Galliano jointly said the show, which had been due to open in May 2027, would not go ahead.
In that statement Galliano said he remained deeply sorry for past remarks that hurt Jewish and Asian communities, and that he did not want the debate about him to distract from the Costume Institute’s work. Max Hollein, The Met’s director, and Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute, both supported the decision.
When is the Met Gala usually held?
The Met says the gala, formally The Costume Institute Benefit, takes place annually on the first Monday in May, and that its proceeds are the Costume Institute’s primary source of annual funding. The 2026 gala followed that pattern on Monday 4 May. Until The Met confirms a 2027 date, the first-Monday pattern is a guide, not an announcement.

The 2026 gala, on Monday 4 May, marked the Costume Institute’s exhibition Costume Art, and the dress code was “Fashion is Art”. Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour were co-chairs. The exhibition, with nearly 400 objects from The Met’s collection, opened the new Condé M. Nast Galleries and runs at The Met Fifth Avenue until 10 January 2027.
