The person and the label
Who is behind Anita Dongre?
Anita Dongre’s house is rooted in Rajasthan and says it works with thousands of craftspeople in handloom weaving, embroidery and block printing. Alongside her own label it runs AND, for westernwear, and the more affordable Global Desi, while Grassroot uses ethical cottons and linens to carry village artisans’ crafts. In May 2018 she opened a three-floor flagship on West Broadway in SoHo, New York, with Grassroot on the ground floor. On 1 November 2025 she opened a 3,000 sq ft flagship at Gardenhouse Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, its walls hand-painted in the pichhwai style by Rajasthani artisans; it is her fourth international store, after New York and Dubai, and the house’s 13th worldwide.
