Cookies & storage
Effective 20 July 2026 · Last updated 19 July 2026
The short version
The Cast Index uses only strictly-necessary browser storage. We set no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies today. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly-necessary storage does not require consent — and if we ever add anything non-essential, we will ask for your opt-in consent before it is set.
What we store
| Storage | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session storage | Keeps the site working during your visit (for example, form and vote confirmation state). | Strictly necessary | Session |
| Theme / display preference | Remembers display choices you make so the site looks the same on your next visit. | Strictly necessary | Up to 1 year |
What we do not use
- No analytics or audience-measurement cookies.
- No advertising, retargeting or conversion-tracking cookies or pixels.
- No third-party ad trackers of any kind.
Some pages link out to retailers (including labelled affiliate links — see How we make money). Once you click through, the retailer’s own site and its cookie policy apply; we never share your personal data with them before you click.
If this changes
If we ever introduce non-essential cookies — for example affiliate conversion measurement or analytics — this page will be updated and we will present an opt-in consent choice before any such cookie is set. Non-essential cookies will never be enabled by default.
How to clear or block storage
You can clear cookies and site storage at any time through your browser settings (usually under “Privacy” or “Site settings”), and you can block storage entirely — the site will still work. To exercise your data rights, see our Privacy Policy.
