What is Miss Dior Essence?

What should you know about the scent?
Miss Dior Essence is built as an Essence de Parfum — a concentration tier above standard eau de parfum — opening on a jammy blackberry accord and black elderflower, moving into a heart of jasmine sambac paired with jasmine absolute, and settling into a woody, oak-based finish. The jasmine-forward heart is a deliberate callback to the original 1947 Miss Dior, and Fragrantica classifies the overall family as floral chypre with gourmand facets.

What should you know about the bottle and the house history?
The flacon reinterprets Christian Dior’s original 1947 Miss Dior bottle — frosted glass etched with the house’s signature houndstooth motif, finished with a black grosgrain "poignard" bow. Miss Dior itself was Christian Dior’s very first fragrance, launched in 1947 alongside his debut "Corolle" couture collection, created by perfumers Paul Vacher and Jean Carles. The name is said to have come about spontaneously, when Dior’s muse Mitzah Bricard greeted his sister Catherine Dior — a French Resistance fighter and camp survivor who later became a Parisian flower dealer — with "Ah voilà, Miss Dior."

Why is Miss Dior Essence in the Beauty Desk edit?
This is the fragrance the Beauty Desk is tracking most closely right now: a concentrated, more intense reissue of one of fashion’s foundational scents, created by a perfumer — Francis Kurkdjian — with his own major independent fragrance house before joining Dior. Natalie Portman fronts the campaign, and the launch sits inside a nearly 80-year lineage that began with Christian Dior’s own first fragrance in 1947.
