Early life and education
Katie Grand was born in April 1971 in Leeds and grew up in Selly Oak, Birmingham. She has traced her interest in fashion to age twelve, prompted by her father’s girlfriend, who worked in London, and by discovering retailers like Warehouse. Around fifteen she committed to art or fashion, taking evening classes in sculpture, life drawing and jewellery making; she went on to study at Bournville College of Art in Birmingham, where she was named Student of the Year with a 96% mark, before attending Central Saint Martins, where she settled on print as her focus.

Early styling career
Grand began styling shoots for Dazed & Confused while still a student at Central Saint Martins, and was subsequently appointed Fashion Director of The Face. She went on to become editor-in-chief of the biannual title POP, building relationships with figures including Madonna, Agyness Deyn, Stella McCartney, Luella Bartley, Miuccia Prada and Giles Deacon — and, notably, persuading Elizabeth Hurley to pose for a POP cover six weeks after giving birth.

LOVE and Perfect
In 2009, Grand founded and became editor of LOVE, a biannual fashion magazine; by the time she left in 2020, The Daily Telegraph was describing her as "one of the most powerful stylists in the world." As LOVE’s editor she also selected the Fashion Museum Bath’s Dress of the Year for 2014. Since leaving, she has run Perfect magazine and its associated creative agency, launched in 2020, alongside continued styling work for houses including Louis Vuitton and Prada and a past collaboration with Giles and Unique at Topshop. She won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator at the Fashion Awards in 2022.
