Press Week, 1943
New York’s fashion week began as "Press Week," a 1943 showcase created by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert. With transatlantic travel restricted during the Second World War, American editors could no longer cover the Paris collections, and Lambert’s event redirected their attention to American ready-to-wear designers working in New York. Press Week is widely cited as the first organised fashion week of its kind, and it established New York as a permanent stop on the international calendar.
The event evolved through the decades — renamed Fashion Week, consolidated under centralised venues in the 1990s, and later decentralised again into a citywide calendar of independently produced shows. The official schedule today is maintained by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the trade body founded in 1962, whose Fashion Calendar lists the season’s confirmed shows and presentations.

The February 2027 season
The CFDA’s Fashion Calendar lists Monday 8 to Friday 12 February 2027 for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2027, which opens the four-city womenswear season ahead of Milan (23 February–1 March, CNMI) and Paris (1–9 March, FHCM). London’s dates had not been published by the British Fashion Council when this page was checked on 1 October 2026.
