How do I check if a cosmetic is BPOM registered?
In brief
Search the product on BPOM’s official site, cekbpom.pom.go.id, or in the BPOM Mobile app, using the notification number on the pack, the product name or the registrant, and confirm the status says Berlaku (valid). For halal status, search the product, company or certificate number at bpjph.halal.go.id/cari/sertifikat.
Key points
- A BPOM cosmetic notification number is two letters followed by 11 digits.
- The second letter shows where the product comes from: NA Asia, NB Australia, NC Europe, ND Africa, NE America.
- BPOM says a cosmetic that cannot be found on its site or app has not been notified, so its quality and safety are not guaranteed.
- BPJPH’s halal search covers product name, business and certificate number, with a separate tab for registered foreign certificates.
How do you check a BPOM notification number online?
Type cekbpom.pom.go.id into your browser yourself and open the cosmetics list (Daftar Produk Kosmetika). Search by the registration number exactly as printed, the product name or the registrant. Filters also let you narrow results by brand, issue and expiry dates, and status.
Compare the result with the pack: the number, product name and registrant should match. Then read the status. Berlaku means valid, and Berlaku (Khusus Ekspor) means valid for export only. The Tidak Berlaku (not valid) statuses include revoked at the registrant’s request, revoked over safety or quality, data not matching, and revoked or cancelled.
What do NA, NB, NC, ND and NE mean on a BPOM number?
They show where the product comes from. BPOM’s office in Denpasar explains that a cosmetic notification number is a two-letter code followed by 11 digits: NA for Asia, NB for Australia, NC for Europe, ND for Africa and NE for America.
Cosmetics may be distributed only after BPOM notification, apart from research items and small numbers of exhibition samples that are not sold. If a product does not appear on BPOM’s site or app, BPOM says it has not been notified, so its quality and safety are not guaranteed.
Can you check BPOM on your phone?
Yes. BPOM says its BPOM Mobile app checks the marketing authorisation of drugs, traditional medicines, cosmetics, health supplements and processed food: scan, or type the product name, and the answer appears straight away.
How do you check a cosmetic’s halal certificate in Indonesia?
Use the Cek Produk Halal search on BPJPH’s site, bpjph.halal.go.id/cari/sertifikat. Fill in the product name, the business name or the halal certificate number; BPJPH says filling in more than one field gives more accurate results. Results list the product, producer, certificate number and date. For an imported product whose foreign halal certificate is registered in Indonesia, use the Registrasi Sertifikat Halal Luar Negeri tab on the same page.
Halal certification is not yet compulsory for cosmetics: the government says the phase-in now runs to 17 October 2028, so a missing halal label is not by itself a breach today. See is halal certification mandatory in Indonesia, or read the steps in Indonesian in Cara cek BPOM dan halal.

Related questions
Is a BPOM number the same as a halal certificate?
- No. The BPOM notification number is BPOM’s marketing authorisation for a cosmetic, while halal certificates are issued by BPJPH. Check each one on its own official site: cekbpom.pom.go.id for BPOM and bpjph.halal.go.id/cari/sertifikat for halal.
What does Berlaku mean on cekbpom?
- Berlaku means the notification is valid; Berlaku (Khusus Ekspor) means valid for export only. Statuses marked Tidak Berlaku mean it is not valid, for example because it was revoked at the registrant’s request or over safety or quality, or because the data did not match.
How do I check a cosmetic bought in Malaysia?
- BPOM covers Indonesia only. In Malaysia, search NPRA’s Product Search for the notification and JAKIM’s portal for halal status; see how to check NPRA and JAKIM.
