The person and the label

Who is behind Lydia Lavín?

Lydia Lavín, born in Mexico City in 1953, founded her label in 2005 out of research with the Instituto Indigenista and the Universidad Iberoamericana, where she has taught for more than four decades, into keeping Indigenous textile techniques alive. Forbes México reported in 2016 that its largest group of women artisans works in Puebla, with others in Guerrero, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Oaxaca and Chiapas. Her daughter, Montserrat Messeguer, joined as co-designer in 2012. The label says it pays artisans a fair price for their textile work.
