Fashion Week

Seoul Fashion Week was launched in 2000 as part of a Seoul Metropolitan Government initiative aimed at raising the international profile of the South Korean fashion industry — a deliberate, publicly-backed effort distinct from the trade-association or syndicate origins of the Western Big Four weeks.

The event is organized by the Seoul Design Foundation, operating under the Seoul Metropolitan Government. In 2015, the city restructured the program to sharpen its focus on developing local design talent and supporting the international expansion of Korean designers, shifting emphasis from a purely domestic trade showcase toward a platform aimed at global buyers and press.

Since the mid-2010s, the week’s main venue has been the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Zaha Hadid’s landmark building in Seoul’s historic garment and textile district. The choice of venue reinforces the event’s close association with Seoul’s street-fashion culture, distinguishing its identity from the couture-and-heritage-house framing of Paris or Milan.

Seoul Fashion Week marked its 25th anniversary season in 2025, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Its Spring/Summer 2027 edition runs 1–7 September 2026 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza and, for the first time, extends to landmark city sites including Deoksugung-gil and Heungcheonsa Temple.
