Early life
Jung Ho-yeon, known professionally as Hoyeon Jung, was born on 23 June 1994 in Seoul, South Korea, to restaurateur parents, and studied at Dongduk Women’s University’s College of Performing Arts. She began modelling classes at 15, freelanced without agency representation from 16, walking Seoul Fashion Week for two years before signing with ESteem Models in 2012, having competed on Korea’s Next Top Model in 2011 and again as runner-up in 2013.

International runway career, 2016–2020
Jung made her New York Fashion Week debut opening Opening Ceremony’s Spring/Summer 2017 show in September 2016, the same season she signed as a runway exclusive for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week and joined The Society Management in New York. Her runway record grew to include Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Max Mara, Burberry, Miu Miu, Schiaparelli, Bottega Veneta, Gucci and Lanvin, and she was named to Models.com’s Top 50 in September 2018.

Squid Game and a screen breakthrough, 2020–2022
Jung signed with Saram Entertainment for acting in January 2020, and her breakout role came the following year as Kang Sae-byeok in Netflix’s Squid Game — a performance that made her a global star. In October 2021 she was named Louis Vuitton’s Global House Ambassador, and in February 2022 became the first solo Korean cover star for American Vogue. That year she won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and won Best New Actress at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, alongside becoming the face of Chanel N°1.

Jung appeared in music videos for The Weeknd’s "Out of Time" in 2022 and NewJeans’s "Cool with You" in 2023, and took roles in the 2024 miniseries Disclaimer and a cameo in Chicken Nugget. In 2025 she starred in Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin and co-starring Hwang Jung-min and Jo In-sung — her feature-film starring debut — promoted with an Elle Korea July 2025 cover, followed by a Vogue Korea cover that December, photographed by Jeff Henrikson.
