Early life
Mariacarla Boscono was born on 20 September 1980 in Rome, Italy. She entered the "Look of the Year" pageant at Festivalbar in Lignano Sabbiadoro in 1995, at 15, where agent Piero Piazzi discovered her and signed her to Riccardo Gay agency in Milan; at 17 she moved to New York and joined DNA Model Management, making her runway debut in 1997 for Laura Biagiotti and Alberta Ferretti.

Rise to a record-setting season, late 1990s–2006
Boscono became a favourite of Karl Lagerfeld through the late 1990s and early 2000s, walking for Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood and Guy Laroche. In a two-week span in 2005 she walked more than 70 shows across Milan, New York and Paris — a widely cited record — becoming H&M’s spokesperson, succeeding Kate Moss, and appearing on Forbes’ top-earning supermodels list at an estimated $3.5 million. In 2006 she made her stage debut as Solange in Jean Genet’s The Maids at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York.

In 2008, Boscono walked Dior’s couture show and became the sole face of Emilio Pucci, Hermès, John Galliano and Moschino campaigns, alongside runway work for Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier. She appeared in the 2009 Pirelli Calendar, shot by Peter Beard in Africa, and became the face of Givenchy’s "Dahlia Noir" perfume in 2011, the same year she was shot by Steven Meisel for Prada.

Recent record, 2016–2025
Boscono has continued high-fashion campaign and runway work in recent years, including Chanel and Mugler for Fall/Winter 2016, Bottega Veneta and Vera Wang in 2017, and Valentino’s Paris runway in 2019 alongside a Zara summer campaign. She married Italian pole vaulter Claudio Stecchi in 2024, and walked Balenciaga’s Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2024 show, followed by Spring 2025 shows for Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander and Versace. She is represented by Women Management, with Milan as her mother agency.
