Early life
Alessandra Corine Ambrósio was born on 11 April 1981 in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to Lucilda and Luiz Ambrósio, of Italian and Polish descent. She began modelling at 12, competing in Brazil’s Elite Model Look in 1995 and signing with Elite at 15 under scout Dilson Stein; her Polaroids led directly to Guess’s "Millennium" campaign.

Victoria’s Secret years, 2004–2017
Ambrósio launched her swimwear line, "Alessandra Ambrosio by Sais," in 2004, and made her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway debut in 2005, becoming the brand’s first PINK spokesmodel in 2006. She walked the show three months postpartum in 2008 and opened it in 2009. In 2012 she wore the $2.5 million Floral Fantasy Bra, performed at the London Olympics closing ceremony, and ranked fifth on Forbes’ highest-paid models list at $6.6 million; in 2014 she wore the $2 million Dream Fantasy Bra alongside Adriana Lima and launched "Ále by Alessandra" with Cherokee. Her final Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show before her announced retirement came in 2017.

Ambrósio co-launched the beachwear brand GAL Floripa in 2019 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in November 2020. She returned to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on 15 October 2024, ending a seven-year absence, and walked her 19th appearance on 15 October 2025. Her campaign and cover record spans Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Fendi, Armani and the Pirelli Calendar. She is represented by CAA in New York and Los Angeles.
