Early life
Birgit Kos was born on 13 April 1995 in Dedemsvaart, Netherlands. She was scouted at 15 in Amsterdam and won the 2010 Elite Model Look Netherlands competition, earning a contract with Elite Model Management Amsterdam; she took time off for schooling before modelling full-time and later lived in Milan for two years.

Runway rise, 2015–2018
Kos’s first magazine cover came with Glamour France in January 2016, following her runway debut at Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda show in Fall 2015. She became an exclusive opener for Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2017 show, worked with Fendi, Hermès and Chloé that year, and closed Tory Burch’s Spring/Summer 2018 show, adding Roberto Cavalli and Blumarine for Fall/Winter 2018. That year she also fronted a Hugo Boss campaign and mini-movie alongside actor Jamie Dornan.

Continued campaign work, 2019–2025
Kos’s Spring/Summer 2019 season included runway appearances for Hermès and Zimmermann and a Twinset campaign, and her cover credits span the Italian, Brazilian, Japanese, German, Mexican, Dutch, Russian and Spanish editions of Vogue, alongside campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Gap, Calvin Klein, Lanvin and Tom Ford. She has been ranked among Models.com’s "Top 50."

Kos returned to the Versace runway for its Spring/Summer 2026 show at Milan Fashion Week in September 2025, a placement fashion press described as a resurgence after a period of more selective bookings. She fronted a campaign for Hunza G’s "La Piscine" collection that August, and appeared on the covers of Wallpaper’s Travel Issue in June 2025 and Harper’s Bazaar Czech Republic that July. She is represented by The Society Management in New York and Elite Model Management across Europe.
