Early life
Doutzen Kroes was born on 23 January 1985 in Eastermar, Friesland, Netherlands, to nurse-turned-teacher Geartsje Leistra and psychotherapist Johan Kroes, both of whom were competitive speed skaters in the 1970s; Kroes herself had originally aspired to be a professional speed skater. She sent snapshots to Paparazzi Model Management in Amsterdam in 2003, launching her career.
Rise and Victoria’s Secret years, 2007–2014
Kroes ranked 14th on Forbes’ top-earning models list in July 2007, with a Vogue feature that May naming her one of "The World’s Next Top Models." She appeared in the 2008 Pirelli Calendar and became a Victoria’s Secret Angel that August, a role she held for seven years while ranking as high as fifth on Forbes’ model earnings list between 2009 and 2012. In September 2013 she became the first model to land four different solo international Vogue September-issue covers in a single year, and in 2014 ranked second on Forbes’ highest-paid models list at $8 million before ending her Victoria’s Secret Angel contract.
Recent record
Kroes made her film debut in Nova Zembla in 2011, became a spokesmodel for Hunkemöller in 2016, and appeared in Wonder Woman in 2017. She has been a L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador since 2006.
