Early life
Chanel Iman Robinson was born on 1 December 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Los Angeles; her heritage is African American with one-quarter Korean ancestry through her mother. She began modelling at 12 with Ford Models in Los Angeles, and in 2006 placed third in Ford’s "Supermodel of the World" competition in New York, a result that launched her professional career.

Early recognition and Victoria’s Secret, 2007–2010
Iman fronted Teen Vogue covers in February and July 2007 alongside Karlie Kloss and Ali Michael, and appeared on the Tyra Banks Show with her mother that October. In 2009 she shared a November Teen Vogue cover with Jourdan Dunn and walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, becoming a full Angel in 2010, the same year she opened "The Red Bag" boutique in Culver City, California. Her runway record from this period includes Burberry, Gucci, Versace, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent.

Advocacy and screen work, 2011–2017
Iman joined USAID and the Ad Council’s FWD campaign for East Africa drought relief in 2011, co-hosting Anna Wintour’s "Runway to Win" fundraiser that May, and designed a fundraising backpack for the 2012 Obama re-election campaign. She took a film role in "Dope," which premiered at Sundance in 2015, and appeared in Crackle’s "Mad Families" in 2017.

Iman married football player Davon Godchaux in early 2024, following the birth of their daughter in September 2023, and launched the home, baby and lifestyle brand Chasa in 2025. She is represented by IMG Models across New York, Paris, London, Los Angeles and Sydney.
