Early life

Hailey Rhode Baldwin was born on 22 November 1996 in Tucson, Arizona, to the actor Stephen Baldwin and the graphic designer Kennya Deodato; her maternal grandfather is the Brazilian musician Eumir Deodato. She trained as a classical ballet dancer for twelve years, working through several injuries, before stepping away from dance at sixteen when she was discovered and moved toward modelling full time.

Early career, 2014–2015

Bieber’s first agency was Ford Models, and her first commercial campaign ran for French Connection in winter 2014. She made her runway debut that October for Topshop and Sonia Rykiel, and by December had appeared in a Love magazine short film shot by Daniel Jackson. Early 2015 brought placements in American Vogue and Teen Vogue, and her first magazine cover, for Jalouse, that April.

Building momentum, 2016

In March 2016, Bieber signed with IMG Models, and the same month appeared in Ralph Lauren campaigns and shot for Vogue Korea. She covered Marie Claire in May, walked Moschino’s show that June alongside Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman, and debuted in Guess advertising. That September’s fashion month took her through New York (Tommy Hilfiger, Prabal Gurung, Tory Burch), London (Julien Macdonald) and Milan (Dolce & Gabbana), closing with Elie Saab in Paris.
