Early life
Indya Adrianna Moore was born on 17 January 1995 in the Bronx, New York, of Haitian, Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Moore left home at 14 due to family transphobia, entering New York’s foster care system and moving frequently across the boroughs before dropping out of high school in tenth grade and later earning a GED.
Entering modelling, 2010s
Moore began modelling at 15, working with Dior and Gucci at a time when the industry remained hesitant to book openly transgender models. Moore walked New York Fashion Week in early 2017 and appeared in Vogue España that year, before signing with IMG Models and William Morris Endeavor in 2018 — reported as WME’s first contract with a transgender actor.
Pose and screen career, 2017–2021
Moore’s breakthrough came with the role of Angel Evangelista on FX’s Pose, which ran from 2018 to 2021. Earlier credits include the independent film Saturday Church (2017), which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, and an appearance in Katy Perry’s "Swish Swish" video and a Saturday Night Live performance that May. In May 2019, Moore became the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of American Elle, and was named to Time’s "100 Most Influential People" the same year.
Recent record, 2021–2025
Moore has continued building an acting and voice career, including Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021), voice work on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (2023–2024), and a role as Wanda in the second season of Netflix’s The Sandman, which premiered in 2025. Moore also founded a production company, Beetlefruit Media, and was honoured on Queerty’s Pride50 list in June 2020.
