Early life
Anna Helena "Anja" Rubik was born on 12 June 1983 in Rzeszów, Poland, to two veterinarian parents; her family’s work took them to live in Greece, Winnipeg in Canada, Umtata in South Africa, and Częstochowa in Poland during her childhood. She competed in the Elite Model Look competition at around 13, signed with D’ivision Model Agency, and moved to Paris at 17, attending École Bilingue while modelling.

Rubik became the face of Chloé for a seven-year run, her first campaign shot by Inez and Vinoodh, and walked four consecutive seasons each for Gucci, photographed by Mert and Marcus, and Fendi, photographed by Karl Lagerfeld. Her broader campaign record includes Armani, Balmain, Dior, Estée Lauder, Givenchy, Hermès, Lanvin, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent, alongside more than 30 international Vogue covers and a Time magazine cover shared with Lech Wałęsa and Pope John Paul II.

Business ventures and advocacy, 2012–2024
Rubik founded and continues to edit 25 Magazine, an independent art and photography title, since 2012, and launched her fragrance "Original by Anja Rubik" in 2014. She founded the SEXEDpl Foundation for sex education in Poland in 2018, publishing the book "#SEXEDpl" that September, which has sold more than 200,000 copies; she has since addressed the UN World Ocean Day event and spoken at the Nairobi ICPD Summit. In 2024 she was awarded the Freedom of Speech Medal at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk, for what the award cited as courageous use of free speech. She is represented by DNA Model Management in New York and SAFE Management in Paris.
