Early life
Małgorzata Bela, known professionally as Malgosia Bela, was born on 6 June 1977 in Kraków, Poland. She was classically trained as a pianist in childhood and holds a literature degree from the University of Warsaw. Her runway debut season came in 1998, walking for Comme des Garçons, Givenchy and Balenciaga.

Vogue Italia and a decade of campaigns, 1999–2011
Bela fronted Vogue Italia’s March 1999 cover, photographed by Steven Meisel alongside Maggie Rizer, followed by a "Colorful Summer" editorial for the magazine in June 2000, also by Meisel. Her campaign record through the 2000s included Lanvin, Valentino, Jil Sander and Versace, and by 2006 she had added Louis Vuitton and Chloé, appearing in the Pirelli Calendar in both 2009 and 2011, the same year she fronted a Vogue Turkey cover.

A parallel acting career
Bela took roles in Polish films including Stranger and Karol: A Man Who Became Pope in 2001, making her feature-film debut in Ono in 2004, and appeared in Luca Guadagnino’s 2018 remake of Suspiria. In 2023 she published the memoir and art book "Winter Girl."

Bela walked Sacai’s Fall/Winter 2024–25 show in Paris in March 2024 and Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2025 show that September, followed by Lanvin’s Fall/Winter 2025–26 menswear show in January 2025. Her recent campaigns include Hermès’s "Barénia" fragrance, COS Pre-Fall 2024 and By Malene Birger. She married Polish film director Paweł Pawlikowski in 2017, and is represented by DNA Model Management in New York and VIVA Model Management across Paris, London and Barcelona.
