Edie Campbell

Early life

Edith Blanche Campbell was born in 1990 in London to hedge fund manager Roddy Campbell and architect Sophie Hicks, and raised in Westbourne Grove; her sister, Olympia Campbell, is also a model. She attended St. Paul’s Girls’ School before graduating with First Class Honours in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, and has competed as an equestrian in dressage, showjumping and cross-country since age five, including at the Gucci Masters in December 2013.

Discovery and early runway, 2009–2012

Campbell was discovered by photographer Mario Testino for a Vogue feature on "up and coming young Londoners," who subsequently cast her in a Burberry campaign alongside Kate Moss, launching her modelling career around 2009 to 2010, alongside early campaigns for Marc Jacobs. In 2011 she won the inaugural Magnolia Cup charity horse race at Glorious Goodwood, and in 2012 closed Chanel’s Spring/Summer couture show as the "bride" — one of modelling’s most prestigious placements.

Model of the Year and a broad editorial record, 2013–2016

Campbell was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in December 2013, the same year she appeared on the covers of British Vogue and Vogue Italia and multiple issues of LOVE magazine, and wrote a journalistic piece for Harper’s Bazaar UK. Her cover credits continued through 2014 with Self Service, Vogue Japan and Vogue Italia, and she returned to British Vogue’s cover in 2016. Her runway career spans some 30 houses, including Chanel, Hermès, Burberry, Dior, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga and Givenchy, with campaigns for Cacharel, Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen and Yves Saint Laurent, including the face of its Black Opium fragrance.

Activism and recent record, 2017–2025

In November 2017, Campbell published an "Open Letter on Model Abuse" in Women’s Wear Daily, following it with a January 2018 talk on the same subject at a Dover Street Market event for LOVE magazine. She fronted Celine’s Summer 2024 "Tomboy" campaign, shot by Hedi Slimane, alongside Etro and Prada work that year and runway appearances for Burberry, Hermès, Khaite and Chanel, continuing into 2025 with Carolina Herrera’s "Initials Insignia Soft" campaign. She is represented by VIVA Model Management across London, Paris and Barcelona, and DNA Model Management in New York.
