Early life
Fernanda Hin Lin Ly was born on 22 October 1995 in Sydney, Australia, of Chinese-Vietnamese descent, and was studying architecture before modelling took over. She was scouted at a shopping mall and made her runway debut for Louis Vuitton in 2015, where she became an exclusive, drawing attention for her distinctive pink hair.

Ly was featured in Teen Vogue in March 2015 and appeared on a Vogue cover the same year, before fronting two Kate Spade New York campaigns and a Gap "Bridging the Gap" film campaign in 2017, alongside American Eagle Outfitters work. She fronted the April 2018 cover of Vogue Australia and appeared in Chanel Beauty advertisements that year, building an editorial record across L’Officiel, LOVE, i-D, W, and the American, Italian, British, Australian, Chinese and Japanese editions of Vogue.
