Early life
Katherine Ann Moss was born on 16 January 1974 in Croydon, London, to barmaid Linda Moss and airline employee Peter Moss; her daughter, Lila Moss, born in September 2002, is also a model. Moss was spotted in 1988, at 14, by Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management, at JFK Airport in New York, returning from a Bahamas holiday.

A defining editorial and rapid rise, 1990–1996
Moss’s breakout came in 1990 with "The 3rd Summer of Love," a black-and-white editorial shot by Corinne Day for The Face at age 16. In 1996 she fronted a Calvin Klein campaign closely associated with the era’s "heroin chic" aesthetic, and contributed tambourine and backing vocals to Oasis’s Be Here Now album that year.

Scandal, recovery and a Topshop collaboration, 2005–2007
In September 2005, tabloid coverage of alleged cocaine use led several brands, including H&M, Chanel and Burberry, to drop her, though she was cleared of any criminal charges in June 2006. The same year, she received the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Inspiration award, and in November 2006 was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. In May 2007 she launched a clothing collection with Topshop, and was named to Time’s 100 Most Influential People that year.

Moss married musician Jamie Hince on 1 July 2011 in Southrop, Gloucestershire, and received a Special Recognition Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2013. In September 2016 she founded the Kate Moss Agency, representing talent including Rita Ora. She has appeared on more British Vogue covers than any other model in the title’s history, and serves as a contributing editor at the magazine. She continues to model actively, including a 2026 appearance in Saint Laurent, and is represented by her own Kate Moss Agency in London.
