How to become a model in Australia

Apply through a Sydney or Melbourne agency’s own website with natural, unfiltered snapshots; professional photos are not needed. Vivien’s runs weekday walk-in assessments. In NSW, where models count as performers, representatives cannot charge you just for joining or auditioning, and children under 16 need an authorised employer; Victoria licenses employers of under-15s.

How it works

How do agencies in Australia recruit?

  • Vivien’s holds walk-in assessments on weekdays, 10am–12pm or 2pm–4pm in Sydney and 2pm–4pm Monday to Thursday in Melbourne, with no appointment needed. Vivien’s Models — be discovered ↗
  • Chic, Scoop, Kult and GIANT say professional photos aren’t needed; GIANT says three to five clear smartphone photos taken by family or friends are fine. GIANT Management — FAQ ↗
  • Most reply only if interested: Scoop contacts shortlisted applicants only, Kult normally contacts successful applicants, and GIANT says it cannot reply to everyone. Scoop Management — get scouted ↗
  • Check emails against the agency’s domain: Vivien’s says any email not ending @viviensmodels.com.au is not genuine, and Kult’s come from @kult.com.au. Vivien’s Models — be discovered ↗
  • GIANT says there is no application fee and no reputable agency charges one; IMG and Kult say they never request payment during scouting. GIANT Management — FAQ ↗

FAQ

Modelling in Australia, answered

Do Australian modelling agencies charge to apply?

In NSW, performer representatives cannot charge you merely for joining or auditioning to join. GIANT says there is no application fee and no reputable agency charges one, and IMG and Kult say they never request payment during scouting or the application.

What height do Australian agencies ask for?

Vivien’s and Chadwick look for women from 173cm (5ft 8in) and men from 183cm (6ft); GIANT lists 5ft 8in for women and 6ft 1in for men. Chic, Scoop, Kult and Priscillas ask for your height without a stated minimum.

Can under-18s apply?

Yes. Vivien’s considers women aged 14–20 and men over 16; IMG takes applications from 14 with a guardian’s consent; Kult and Scoop need a parent’s or guardian’s consent for under-18s; and GIANT’s Junior division represents children.
